Eny Oh
Eny Oh, creator and owner of BeholderEL(previous feature here), stylist, and makeup professional. As I have been a loyal customer of BeholderEL since early this year, I've gotten to know what a sincere business woman she is. Working in her industry, it is hard maintain security and self-worth. However, Eny Oh maintains poise, a strong sense of self, but also the knowledge of how important health is in an industry of beauty and fashion. The idea for this interview originated from her fabulous and informative Lifestyle Blog.
The first thing I would like to ask, because I know others will be curious as well, I wanted to ask your ethnicity. You have a very unique name.
Well my dad is Nigerian and Brazilian, and my mom is Barbadian and Trinidadian. So I'm mixed with a lot of things. (laughs)
Next, I wanted to ask what are all your titles within your profession? What is all that you do?
Well, basically hair and makeup. That's how I started off first. Makeup is how I started off first with my company because its something I've been doing for 7 years now, and then styling came into play after that. I also do some event planning. It's not my main focus. I just oversee other people on my team, but I come up with some of the ideas and they put them into play. What I focus on the most is hair, makeup, and styling. Like photo-shoots, editorials. Stuff like that.
I see you've been traveling a lot lately and have had a pretty successful summer. So could you give us an update on what you've been up to this summer?
Sure, well this summer I've just signed a contract with the The Miss District of Columbia USA and Miss District of Columbia Teen USA, under Five Crown Pageant Productions. So I've been very busy with them. Then I went to the Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas. I was pretty busy there running around meeting different people, meeting designers. Doing a lot there, then I came back again. It's getting ready to be pageant season again, I don't know if people know that or not. I'm really busy styling looks for the 2013 program book.. Getting ready for seminars, helping girls get ready for the pageants. So that's my biggest focus, and then I'm still styling editorial shoots. So I think my summer has been pretty pretty busy, and I wouldn't like it any other way. I like it that way, because when I'm not busy I feel like I'm sucking at life. (laughs)
Now I would like to know a little bit more specifically about BeholderEL. Can you tell us about how it began and all that it is now?
When it started, it was just an idea. I had went to All Stars Weekend in LA two years ago, and I met with a famous fashion stylist and interior designer. I was talking to her and I realized I can put all the things I love to do together and make a business. Ever since then my life has not been the same. I put a plan together and said this is what I'm going to do, and that's what I did.
As a makeup artist and stylist, how important is it to be aware that while chasing beauty and fashion, being healthy is imperative as well?
It's very important, because it doesn't matter how much makeup I put on your face. It doesn't matter how many pairs of spanks I try to put on your hips or your love handles that you're trying to hide. It's all about being healthy. It's about what you eat. It's all about exercising. It's all about taking care of your skin.This is always what I tell people; what you have naturally is what you need to take care of. Yes you can add weave to your hair to make it long temporarily, but when you take that out what do you have? What you have under that,.that's what you want to take care of. You can put spanks on and be shaped like a coke bottle, but when you take those spanks off what do you have? Work on what you have naturally and use all these extra things to enhance your beauty. Don't count on all these extra things to make you beautiful.

What would you say to little girls who idolize public figures who exhibit false or manipulated images of beauty?
To be honest with you, if I had a daughter she wouldn't watch T.V. She wouldn't read magazines, because it is superficial beauty. Growing up in this society what you see on television and what you see in magazines is what people consider to be beautiful, and that's not necessarily the truth. When I was a kid, you know my mom didn't want me watching television like The Real World. Like when I was growing up that was really big, and that's what people were watching. She caught me watching an episode where I think they were kissing and another girl was running around naked saying she was fat, I can't remember. But, my mom never wanted me watching those things. She always told me "You're beautiful, never let anyone tell you that you weren't", and I believed that. So I grew up never really reading magazines and not watching certain television shows. So I would tell all the young girls now, well instead of them, the parents to tell their daughters every single day that they're beautiful. That they're fabulous, and there's nobody in the world that's better than them. Because if the parents don't tell them who will? They'll go looking at these magazines trying to figure things out. They'll go looking at these models, and all they're thinking is 'I have to be this skinny, I have to do that, I have to be that. My hair has to be longer', and that's not necessarily the case.
A few pet peeves while on the job?
Um, let's see. What I would change? To be honest with you I don't think I would change anything. I really love everything about all the things that I do. I can't really say there would be anything I'd change. I know sometimes I can complain a lot when I'm on set. Like man we've been on set for 12 hours and we're going to be here for another 9, or something like that, but it's not something I would change because it's my life. It's my career. But, I really don't think there's anything I could change.
What do you like most about your job?
I love when a photographer or director of a shoot gives me a concept and I nail it right on the head. They're so happy and they're like "she got it I love it and we're only working with her. She's the best". That's what I love the most. I love accomplishing a concept, and nailing it right on the head.
Where is your ultimate vision for BeholderEL?
My ultimate vision is to be the go to brand for hair, makeup, and styling. I know it's going to take a some years, but that is my ultimate goal. To be the go to brand for hair, makeup, and styling. Like, 'we're going to BeholderEL, we're not going to anybody else'. I want to be known in Hollywood as the go to girl, my company.

Finally, anything special planned or upcoming for BeholderEL?
I'm not the type of person that likes to talk about things before they happen, but yes. A lot of things that are in the works coming up for this fall and winter for sure. I can say that I'm getting ready to go to Fashion Week in about two weeks, and I'll be doing some pretty cool things there, but you guys have to wait to see. (laughs)
Is there anything else you'd like for us to know?
Just for young boys and girls, but especially young girls, if you have a dream make sure you live it out. Make sure you're confident, always know your worth, and never settle for less. And that is in all you do. Make sure you know your worth, never settle for less, and push for all of your dreams. Never let anyone tell you can't do something because believe me, you can.
