Have you been wondering where the Soul has gone in R&B music? Too much pop, too much techno. You only get a sip of a soulful hook in a Hip Hop record. I was sure Nas killed auto tune. Where are the Jill Scott's, Angie Stones's, India Arie's? In IndYah Rashaud's "This Is Who I B" you are reminded, that lyricism is still alive in Soul and R&B music, that a mundane hook or vocals overshadowed by pop beats aren't a necessity for a song to be great.
IndYah "Songbird" Rashaud known affectionately as the soul of District Phive is a songstress born and raised in Mobile, AL, Trinity Gardens to be specific. Her talents can be traced back to a musical family and were cultivated with her association with District Phive, one component of the artist collective known as Nu Nation. IndYah's sound presents a marriage between down home gospel and Nu school soul with a sprinkling of jazz mixed with rhymes of classic hip hop.
